The Sounds of Slice

As a mosh developed at the end of Mothra’s set, no one in the crowd could keep their shoes from being caked in mud.

Sun starting to peak out behind the clouds, grabbing ice cream at Prince Pucklers, and the resurgence of outdoor music shows means one thing: Spring is upon Eugene, Oregon. On Friday, April 21, the clouds were still looming, but Slice held an all-ages and free show on their small yet mighty patio stage. Before setting up, bands sat amongst the audience members and mingled while enjoying a slice of pizza. The show included performances from the band ExWife, Face Transplant and Mothra.

ExWife kicks off the show with an original song— demonstrating a gritty alternative rock flair that unites each member's aesthetics. ExWife comprises guitarist, Nic Kauffman; lead singer, Alexandria Bonanno; bassist, Bailey Hoover; and drummer, Wash.

Up next is Face Transplant, a band made up of lead singer and guitarist, Daniel; bassist, Geff; and drummer, Nathan. The band performs a mix of originals and covers in the style of indie and alternative rock. Their original songs consist of comical and tongue-in-cheek lyrics with songs such as “Am I Healthy Enough for Normal Sex?”

The band finishes their performance with an alt-rock cover of the 1987 hit pop song, “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany.

Mothra takes the stage as the final act of the night. Mothra consists of guitarist and singer, JP McCarthy; drummer, Rena Frampton; lead singer and bassist, Belle; and guitarist, Krista Kroiss. Mothra performs all original songs such as “Diane.” Their indie and alt-rock style is matched with Belle’s riot-grrl-esque vocals.

Lead singer Belle belts as Mothra closes the show with their song “Don’t Touch Me,” which elicits the crowd to mosh.
